Contents of page 'Home - Internet Hosting Services' are:Net Business Goals - what we DO
Our services take you and your business idea through an
important StepWise process to deploying
people, procedures and technology to become a commercial success.
Our skill, knowledge and software assets also allow you to address the last of
those critical components without training your own "Internet" experts while
minimising cost, risk and pain for both you and your customers.
And unlike many competitors, - adding
extra capabilities does not force you to throw away previous investments
but equally will not appear to users as "bolted on the side".
Is this page too boring??? - had to ask before you left!
This site is what we believe is appropriate for an
I.T. services company to have as a presence on the Internet.
But your company may need something completely
different which is why we needed to create
a page with technology
demonstration links so that you can also see what we can do
for different types of business.
Start simple but with the future in mind...
Within each step of
the StepWise process we deliver
detailed knowledge and experience of how to deploy technology
to maximise business benefits gained from over 20 years of
experience with blue-chip companies.
You won't find that detail
on this website unless you are one of our associates because our
site is Intelligent and Dynamic in that it can:
- differentiate between competitors and customers
- allow you to keep your site fresh with news
and other minor updates without the delays and cost of
getting pages re-authored and published
- know how you found our site without having to ask
- know what browser, operating system you use as well as how
much information you can fit on your screen
- have a highly probable guess at your natural language
- AND - given the above - the site can dynamically send you
different pages and
even different text on pages - it all depends "who's asking"...
This is extremely important
regarding Sustainable
Search Engine placement - follow the link for more detail.
- present information extracted from (PC) spreadsheets
without manual re-keying
- dramatically reduce Junk Mail.
- allow you to tailor aspects of your dialogue with
the site to suit your preferences
- Allows you to have groups of users who have access to
the site, even update some parts but exclude the rest of
the WWW community.
- Is the foundation for a Web Site that "does something useful"
rather than a stale, static brochure that no-one ever returns to.
See ª`Linkintrorw for more details or see Where to Start.
What if your business wouldn't benefit from Internet technology?
If during the StepWise process the conclusion is that
the most appropriate technology to
match your business idea is
pen and ink then so-be-it - we know that customers return to suppliers
who are serious about integrity and honesty.

Site hosting - What and Where
For a summary - see Summary
and comparison of Site Hosting plans.
Unless your company is a "dot com" or a medium-sized corporate then
it is likely to be best to have your Web Site hosted on an offsite computer
that is in a large, secure data centre with very high speed
connections to the rest of the Web.
Even if you have an "always on" connection to the Web there is a mass of
time, energy, effort, cost and risk in trying to set up a Web Server and
a very, very significant amount of time from very skilled people
required to keep it running securely, reliably, responsively etc..
You connect to your Web server from your own computer (or just a PC)
as and when needed to refresh the information on both of them.
This task can be automated and our own services are available to
assist but it is not common to connect more than twice per day.
We provide a very high function hosting service at a very significant
discount to our design and deployment customers because:
- we recognise the customer need for a one-stop shop and
- we can justify the reduced fees
on the basis that we also remove a layer of communication and bureaucracy
that arises when we provide just one of those services
Bands of service
To keep the buying (and selling!) simple we only have two levels
of service:
- The Full Monty (For
non-UK visitors = "everything") : this includes all you need to run
interactive Web Sites that are driven by Data and DataBases.
- Your Starter for Ten :
this includes all you need to run a static Web Site plus a subset of
utilities and facilities that are commonly required even for simple sites.
Note that Secure form submission is included.
The pricing for each of these when purchased as part of a design
and deployment (D&D) engagement will be quoted in your (D&D) proposal but
you can expect that they will be around 50% of the List Prices below
with a price cap guarantee at that same rate.
Price List for Services - UK Pounds Sterling (£) excluding VAT
Full Monty - £195 per annum or £19.50 per month.
Starter for Ten - £120 per annum or £12 per month.

Security and Authentication
of your (Business/) Web Site for additional offers.

Hosting - the Full Monty
Our aim is to offer you all you need to have a very dynamic,
intelligent site at a reasonable cost.
For those that want to check that statement, the Full Monty includes:
- 300MB of disk space
- 30 Mailboxes(Users)¹ ² -
note that is not a limit on access to the site,
merely how many of your own staff could have their own mailboxes.
This is an ideal way of keeping Junk e'Mail out of your primary mailbox.
- Any number of Sub-domains¹
- 2GB of Data Transfer
- Client (eg Outlook - POP3) and Web Browser access to e'Mail when away from your PC
- Ensim control panel to control email accounts, sub domains etc.
- User access control for pages and data beneath Home Page
- SPAM Filtering by source - e'Mail address, domain
(ie all at badserver.com) or IP address
and for the technologists:
- MySQL - multiple DataBases¹
- PHP4
- Perl 5
- SSI
- FrontPage 2002
- Linux / Apache
- Modern Intel servers attached with 100mbps burst mode connections to
more than 6 Internet backbones
Notes: ¹ Normal use of these facilities consume a small
amount of your allocated disk space.
²
Normal use of these facilities consume small amounts of
your allocated bandwidth.
Also see Price List.
Hosting - your starter for ten
Our aim is to offer you a very affordable entry cost to having a
prescence on the World Wide Web but allowing you to upgrade to a
more substantial site as and when it makes sense for you and your
business proposition.
For those that want to check that statement, the Starter for Ten
package includes:
Also see Price List.
Recommendations to add to the list are always welcome,
particularly if that is what will make you decide to join us!.
However - please do not ask us to do anything you know to be illegal
such as making copies of code that would violate any licensing restrictions.
If you don't know then ask!.
New sites - why pay for what you don't need
Any new site will take time to get established and for the
traffic to grow.
No credible web professional is going to predict what resources you will
need without some history to analyse.
What we do is to let you buy what you need to start and allow you
to flexibly expand your resources when you know what you need.
Get more of the resources you want in exchange for those you don't!
Unless you request otherwise or you tell us your requirements in detail then
we will set a threshold-notification trigger at 50% of the quantites listed above
with our complete committment to set your allocations
to the limits of your plan on your request at any time.
Even if you exceed the thresholds set, the site will continue to work
perfectly normally - you will be notified automatically by e'mail
and all you need to do is forward that e'Mail to us to confirm that
the usage was not an "accident" or other unusual incident and we will
increase your allocation of that resource.
Sooner or later you will reach the limits of your plan in one
of the resource groups but it is quite likely that another
resource you bought initially is still below it's original 50% setting!
- that's where we both become flexible!.
As you understand the resource needs of your site by this time, we will
offer you a plan which is balanced to meet the resources you need and those
that you don't - within the same charge.
An example might be that you don't need 50% of your mailbox allocation
but you do need 40% more bandwidth because you have a very popular
and graphically intensive site - no problem.
We are not offering to do this balancing act on even a monthly basis but
at each anniversary of your contract we will try to offer you the deal
which best suits your resource usage.
You can then factor in any promotional or other expansion plans and
decide the trade-offs.
The benefit to you is that - as you can see - our prices remain low even
when one of the resources you consume is high because other customers
may use more of a different resource but less of the one that you need.
As part of the new site deal you also get a
15% up-front discount off the annual
prices shown in the Price
List above and 30% off your 2nd and subsequent years subscriptions
if you remain below our initial settings.
So even if your site does not become an overnight "Google" the good news
is that you will have your prescence on the Web with lower cost as well
as pain and most importantly when you need to expand, the capability
is there without question and in a completely non-disruptive manner.
Or choose to take it all up-front
If you prefer to have us pre-allocate all the resources of the plan that
you choose when we set up your site then we will be pleased to do so with
no "quibble" whatsoever. Additional resources can then be purchased at very
reasonable rates indicated
in 'extras' - above.
Domain registration and managment
We recommend that you either:
- register your domain name yourself online with a reputable
registrar who is likely to be in business for the next decade or
- We can manage the acquisition and management of your .com or .co.uk
domain for a nominal £15 per annum to minimise the effort and
time-wasting that can easily occur.
Other domain TLDs - prices on request.
If you choose anything but the second option then we reserve the
right to make administration charges of £15 per hour resolving any
issues that arise.
Exclusive Secure Site Connectivity
We can manage the process of acquiring and deploying a unique Certificate
for your Company which will give Web Users secure connectivity from their
browser all the way to our server.
For the majority of Small to Medium Businesses who are not conducting
significant financial transaction we can supply this for £90 p.a.
payable annually in advance. This will give 93% of the total Web population
access without any intervention and the other 7% using very old or unusual
browsers will have the option to accept your credentials dynamically.
There are many alternative suppliers of certificates for which we would
then simply charge an installation and administrative fee to manage
this facility. GeoTrust would be our preferred 2nd-tier supplier at a charge
of £60 p.a. in addition to the annual payment for the certificate.
Geotrust currently charge 149 USD for QuickSSL and
True BusinessID is 249 USD. Both can be seen
at:
the GeoTrust Web Site.
Contents of page 'Administration Services' are:Administering the Web without your own skills and training
Although our aim is always to minimise the additional skills
and resource required to integrate the activities on the Web
with your own business there may be some things are more sensibly
done outside of your organisation.
The services fall into three broad categories - ranging from day-to-day to annual.
Day to day tasks that have to be administered
- e'Mail receipt, acknowledgement and management
Tasks that have to be administered every week or month
- Retrieve and analyse web statistics to ensure visitors are finding
the site and what they need
Annual tasks that have to be administered
- Domain name registration and renewal - depending upon the type of domain
this may be annual or every two years.
For clients of our design and development services the fee for this is
£15 p.a. for all "normal" domains (e.g. '.com', '.co.uk' etc.).
For other clients the charge is
£25 p.a. - again for "normal" domains (e.g. '.com', '.co.uk' etc.) only.

Net Business Goals Hosting services - e'Mail management
Summary - please note the whole page is ©Net Business Goals
If you have already used e'Mail elsewhere you will know that if you
do not have a plan for managing them they will cause you a serious amount
of pain, time and effort.
There are many guides available for avoiding SPAM and managing notes into
folders so that is not repeated here. This guide is about how to use our
specific facilities to the best effect.
If you want to skip directly to any of the following then you can
click on the item in the list:
- Use secure Form-to-Mail and Contact details manager to
avoid placing your contact details on your Web Site
- <`ªtrefCont1>eMail addresses that are in plain text can be
harvested by robots looking in ordinary pages for text such
as mailto:abuse@localhost or in
simple Web Forms for hidden fields such
as <input type=hidden name=recipient value='mailto:abuse@localhost'>.
We provide this service for any Web Site (Hosted by us or not!)
at a small additional charge to your hosting fees.
- Managing e'Mail on a PC (eg. MS Outlook):
- <`ªtrefSetDel>Set deletion for a number of days
after download plus always on delete
- Managing e'Mail using Squirrel Mail
- Use a secure link - <`ªnurefs/hawk.xssl.net/~yourdomain/squirrelmail> can
be bookmarked by right-clicking on this link
- <`ªtrefPurge1>Empty your Trash can at least once per week
- <`ªtrefSM+EMC>Use an e'Mail client as well as Squirrel Mail so that
important e'Mails that you do not discard are stored on your PC and backed
up from there.
- Set up more than one e'Mail account
- <`ªtrefNotSad>Don't use your Site admin account for regular
e'Mails as important mail may get lost.
- <`ªtrefMor1em>Creating a second account allows you to retain contact
with "Web contacts" even if your first account has problems.
Note that you MUST place restrictions on space used by each e'Mail user
to avoid all your accounts becoming unusable.
- Go to the "Mail" tab as described in (1) above, select the relevant
account with a single click and then click on Properties which you will
find on the Big buttons down the Right Hand Side.
- In Properties - choose the "Advanced" Tab and then SE-lect the
"Leave a copy on server" - ie it should be a small square box.¹ with
a black "tick" in it.
You must also set the period to keep the e'Mails - 28 days should be ample.
If you choose the option "delete files at server when deleted from Trash Bin"
then be aware that those delete actions you perform in this identity will
cause the original e'mail account never to see those e'Mails.
- Then click on the "Servers" Tab and change the `ªimails to the set of
numbers including the dots that you made a note of from the
results of the "ping" process.
- Click on the relevant "OK" buttons until you are back at the Outlook
main screen(s) ready to read mail.
- Click on "Send/Recv" to download your e'Mails from your `ªoldes
but note that it will leave them on the server because
of ¹ above.
Bear in mind that you will be intentionally creating duplicate
e'mail messages when you retrieve them first on this account
because you will have left them on the server for the original
account to handle as "normal".
- Once you have proved to yourself that this copy of your old
`ªemcli account is downloading e'mail successfully² you do not need
to use it again until immediately after
the domain name has been "switched".
WebMail usage and quick way to see if `ªtranp is over
Your welcome page will contain a link to the WebMail package that allows you
to see your e'Mails from a browser client - eg Internet Explorer at work
rather than Outlook Express at home - both accessing the same InBox.
Because you can access this without having to be physically at your
own PC with it powered up and connected to the Internet you may find
this is a useful way of checking if your new e'Mail account(s) are
receiving mail.
As soon as you are aware this is happening then you should use the
`ªemcli copy account in your "New identity" (as in ² above) to
download any e'mails that have been mis-directed or not downloaded in `ªtranp.
Glossary of terms
To keep the text as brief and readable as possible we have used the terms:
- The `ªdom2m to our service is the one (which you just agreed to purchase)
which is currently running on another companies hosting service.
This is normally the piece AFTER the 'www'.
To be more precise in Internet terms it is a TLD or Top Level Domain,
beneath which a company could have one or many sub-domains.
- For a short duration of time the "pointer" to the `ªdom2m will be
in a state of flux as thousands of DNSs (Directory Name Servers) across
the globe propagate millions of changes per week. However, `ªtranp we define
is much longer in that from the initiation of the request to change such
a pointer to it happening could be anything between seconds and weeks
because depending upon who owns the domain name - the process could involve
people and not all of them are necessarily seeing your request as their
current top priority.
- During `ªtranp `ªemloss will occur if the sender addresses mail
to you at your old hosting service and you do not download it before the
pointer to the `ªdom2m switches to the new server.
Also, `ªemloss could occur if the user name at `ªdom2m is not valid and
it is not picked up by the "Catch-all" facility - this is true in particular
for the user name "mail" unless you set up a specific re-direction for that
user name.
- An `ªimails is the server from which you download your e'Mails, it
always needs a user name and password but to find it amongst the 2 billion
Internet addresses you need to know either the exact number OR access it
by a name, usually containing the `ªdom2m.
As the name switches pointer from the old hosting service during `ªtranp
to the new "the old" is almost impossible to find after the switch.
This is the root cause of the problem that we are addressing in
this page.
- An `ªemcli is normally a Windows-based PC but many others are available
and supported by our servers but those instructions on this page which
refer to `ªemcli will not be relevant.
- The `ªraccts are those e'mail accounts which have a `ªimails which has
a name containing the `ªdom2m.

We prosper by delivering value to our customers.
To achieve this we promise to:
- communicate in terms that you can relate to whether that is
cash-flows and profit, customer loyalty and care or, if you want those
translated into I.T. we can do that too - as long as we can see the
relevance to your business.
- provide sound advice on the commercial exploitation
of the Internet and related topics and to make it clear when
and if we are not qualified to do so.
- explain in business terms what we are proposing, even if the
translation into technology and delivery of a solution is complex.
- be pragmatic when "making things happen" but equally innovative,
and we hope inspirational while your ideas are in their conception.
- keep you well-informed about the work that we do for you.
- have an awareness of tools, techniques, methods and related
technologies which we can use to help you make good decisions when
investing in projects which involve the Internet.
For instance, we have in-house skills in the areas of:
- Marketing - traditional and of course - in-depth "on-Line"
- Sales - traditional and of course - in-depth "on-Line"
- Business Analysis, specialising in the translation into Information Technology
- Server technologies - PC to Mainframe
- Client technologies and user interfaces - Windows and not
Over the past 5-6 years we have also developed a capable and
reliable network of associates who we can introduce to clients
(or sub-contract if preferred) in related areas such as:
- Hosting services (or ISPs as they are often referred-to)
- Graphical designers
- Press Relations

We promise:
- not to take information from you without both your knowledge
and consent
- not to use any information that you provide for
any purpose other than the reason that you intended.
For example if you want us to reply to an e'mail
then we will need to use your e'mail address to do so.
- in particular that we will only
use addressing information (e'mail, telephone, Fax or postal)
when you have requested us to do so.
- to store your information on our server in such a way that
it cannot be accessed by any other user than the one allocated
to you.
Note that you are responsible for your password -
choosing something which is not easy to guess (ie susceptible to a
"brute force" guessing attack) and afterwards in keeping
other people from having access to it.
- to store all passwords in an encrypted (1-way) format which does not
have a decrypting algorithm.
This means that even our application support or hosting staff
cannot tell you what your password is so please be careful with your master
password in particular - our only option will be to set it to something
that we can communicate to you in some relatively secure manner.
- to always allow you the ability to administer your own details,
including any subscriptions to mailing lists.
This includes the deletion of your account such that it can no longer be
accessed - even by you.
- to use mailing lists at whatever frequency is
originally advertised for that list or less if that is appropriate.
- never to provide your details to any other company or organisation unless
legally required to do so.
- that if this company is ever the subject of a takeover then the
owners will make one of the conditions of sale that the above list is
honoured for all existing users and that you will be contacted by e'mail
to confirm (default to be "No") your desire to continue using
this site under the new ownership.
And if you are still sceptical:
We will also allow you to enter personal details that are blatantly
incorrect (eg Santa Claus, North Pole, Mr M. Mouse et. al., )
unless in doing so we would be acting illegally,
improperly or it would affect the system or other users, but:
- Your use and benefits from this site may be impaired if you do this but
we recognise that until we have established your trust then this
may be your preferred option.
- Note that some self-administration functions on this site will
require verification via e'mail so you will need
a valid e'mail address - even if only a temporary HotMail account
if for instance you wish to (auto-)register for an account.
- Your security level on this site will be restricted until further
authentication of your identity is provided and a valid business "need
for access" is established.

Formed in November 1997, the company founders are brother and sister team,
Mark and Jacqueline Ross.
Net Business Goals is based in Manchester, England.
Jacqueline initially realised the potential of industry and the web, whilst
Mark recognised the business need for practical and non-technical advice.
Between them they started Net Business Goals, originally working for clients
in the North West.
Since then, Net Business Goals has been engaged by companies across the UK.
Both Mark and Jacqueline work from home-based offices to ensure client costs
are down and productivity is high. Mark is an advocate of "teleworking" and
the flexibility this offers to such workers and their clients.
Our Associates
Although we have built an extensive network of professionals who
have earnt our mutual trust this is not a list that we would make
available of our Web Site other than what you might presume from our
list of clients (ª`Linkclients).
One exception to that rule due to his relationship with the company
and the potential benefits that he brings to our own capability
is Brian Robinson.
Brian brings 20-plus years of I.T. Application skills from more than fifty
significant customer projects while working for a blue-chip I.T. company.
See Background of Brian Robinson - an Associate of Net Business Goals for details of past projects and experience.
Brian will not be working as an employee of Net Business Goals and can be
contacted directly at e-Mail BR:
from 6th April 2003.
